New life on the farm

New life never ceases to amaze me. Whether its a plant, animal or human the miracle is the same, and I marvel at the Creator’s perfect design.
Here on the farm we experienced new life this week. Our goats Peanut and Popcorn gave birth. Peanut had a little boy we named Brittle, and Popcorn surprised us with triplets which we’ve named Kernel, Carmel and Cracker Jack. In the whole bunch there is only one girl. (we were a little disappointed at this fact, but were quickly reminded: the Dysingers are all about boys! Yet again, I am outnumbered…)  Here are some pictures.

Having triplets, they emerged in all different awkward positions, making it a difficult delivery for Popcorn. Mom, Caroline and I enjoyed playing "midwife."

Cracker Jack, Carmel and Kernel only minutes after being born.

They're all play!

Several times I have found myself standing alone out by the goat pen, just watching these new little forms of life.  Four miracles have been added to this world!

  1. Awww!! How cute!! I love seeing new born kids. :D
What we do to get doe kids, is give them Apple Cider Vinegar at the time of breeding. This year, so far, we've had 3 little does born.... no boys. :)
The kidding season actually hasn't started yet. Just had the two does due. We'll have another kidding spurt in May, and then the regular in Sept. :)
How many goats do you have all together?

    1. Wow! That is amazing! We'll have to try that next time. : ) We just have the two does, Peanut and Popcorn. They are "mutts" and used only for eating the grass. I would like to get some Nubians so I could use the milk in my soaps and lotions. What breed of goats do you have, and what do you use them for?

    2. Yeah, we were pretty amazed when we saw the results with the ACV. :)
We have Nubians, Toggenburgs, British Alpines, a Melaan cross and a Saanen cross. Oh and plenty of ferals - aka goats we've caught from the bush and tamed.
They're mostly pets, but we do milk some of them every day. Us children have always been vegans, but mum and dad use the milk. Mum makes soap and skin creams with it too. Hmm, you could have a look at our website. :) It is: forestgold.net. We've got pictures up of some of our goats on the "Meet the Goats" page. I've got pictures on my blog too. :)
